Ratkovicz played 12 years of professional basketball without the benefit of playing in college. He was 19 when he debuted with the Bruins, but then went into the military for the war. Upon his return, the 6'7 center /  power forward enjoyed a long career that lasted into the mid 50's. He also played minor league baseball in the Athletics and Braves farm systems.
