He played on two Big 10 championship teams at Northwestern, where he earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree. He played basketball after college for the House of David, as well as the Chicago Bruins. He also played professional baseball after college. He joined Crookston in the Northern League in 1934, and then proceeded to bounce around the White Sox and Cubs farm systems for a few years before winding up in the PCL in 1939. He returned to Crookston for the 1940 season, his last in professional baseball. It was at this point he was playing basketball for the Bruins in the NBL. From there, he went into teaching and coaching. He taught for 28 years for the Elmwood Park school district, with most of them spent at John Mills school, retiring in 1975.
He married Margaret and they had two daughters, Karen and Christine.
